We currently have two Black-capped Conures in the store, who arrived on Monday 19th January and are settling in nicely. As you can see from their photo, they are very active and inquisitive and don’t sit still for too long!
Samples have been sent away for DNA sexing, so we can determine whether they are male or female. We’re expecting the results back sometime next week.
These beautiful conures were bred last year and are approximately 6–8 months old. They are very active, curious little parrots and already showing lovely personalities. They’re particularly fond of fruit, with apple being a firm favourite at the moment.

Anyone thinking of keeping a conure should take a little time to consider the following before committing:
Noise & vocalisation
Conures are naturally vocal birds. While Black-capped Conures are generally quieter than some of the larger conure species, they will still chatter, call, and make noise throughout the day. They are not suited to anyone needing a completely quiet pet.
Time & interaction
These are intelligent, social parrots that thrive on daily interaction. They require regular engagement, mental stimulation, and time outside of their enclosure. A conure is best suited to someone who can offer consistent attention and enrichment.
Diet & enrichment
A varied, balanced diet is essential. Alongside a high-quality pellet, conures need fresh vegetables, leafy greens, and fruit in moderation. Enrichment such as foraging toys, chewable items, and natural perches is vital for their mental and physical wellbeing.
Space & environment
Black-capped Conures are active birds and need a suitably sized enclosure with space to climb, move, and play. They do best in a stable environment with a consistent routine and plenty of opportunities to explore safely.
Lifespan & long-term commitment
Conures can live 20–30 years with the right care. Owning one is a long-term commitment that should be carefully considered, ensuring their needs can be met not just now, but well into the future.
If you’re researching conures and want to learn more, we’re always happy to have a thoughtful conversation in store about whether this species is the right fit for you and your lifestyle.
